At The Metal Works, we can form aluminum and steel into pieces that can't be found elsewhere.  How do we do this?  We use the same tools that were once used to form metal, before being replaced by modern stamping processes.  Many of these tools are over 40 years old and have been collected at The Metal Works to provide pieces that reflect true craftsmanship.  The processes used include using tools such as the English wheel, planishing hammers, and the Pullmax, as well as hammer forming and leading.  Using these methods is ideal because they provide the highest quality parts and provide a period correct process for the replacement of hard to find parts.

Below is some information on the tools used at the metal works:

The English Wheel
Victor Yordy has built his own English wheel to meet his needs.  The English wheel can shape metal smoothly and easily by pushing metal back and forth.  This is all done by hand.

The Planishing Hammer
Planishing hammers smooth, or planish (smooth by hammering), metal that has been shaped by hand.  This is done by using air to power the machine.

Pullmax (Power Hammer)
Power hammers are very specialized pieces.  They can form pieces quickly and precisely using dies.  If a die isn't available for a particular purpose, one is made to suit the requirements.
